How To 'save' My Filter Media?

hey guys,
just wondering your thoughts on the best way to save my filter media. i'm currently moving house and we will have about 3 weeks inbetween signing over our flat until we can exchange and complete on our house. my in-laws have kindly agreed to let me set up my smaller tank and keep my fish there until the house is signed over and we can get the usual one up and running again.
personally i think the smaller tank is too small to have the filter sponges from the Vision 180 in the corner just to keep them going.
would it work if i kept them in a bucket of tank water? i'm assuming i would need to go buy a heater to go in the bucket too?
i'd rather not have to start from scratch when i set it back up again in a few weeks time!!

You could keep them in a bucket but would need to feed the bacteria to keep them alive, using ammonia

im moving in a week and im gonna put my put my filter media in a big fishbag of tank water along with a fair amount of flake food and hang it from the grabrails of my car (above the rear doors..those things) so it swings around circulating the water while i move.The media will be out of the tank for 3 to 4 days and im hoping that the fishless cycle (using ammonia,not food) at the new house will only take weeks instead of months (the fish arent coming,theyre almost all rehomed now)

a)no, coldwater tanks have these friendly bacteria in their filters too
b)with the weather we've been having lately the bag of water will be roasting hot during the period of the move anyway

but im thinking of binning the idea anyway as id have to keep the bacteria alive artificially and out of the actual tank for longer as im draining the tank ready for the move tomorrow when i rehome the last fish..and i may be selling this filter..with media in it before the week is out
