How To Reduce Nitrates In My Tap Water?

My tap water's Nitrate is at 40 ppm
My aquarium's Nitrate is at 40 ppm
How do I lower Nitrates in TAP WATER?
I want to lower to <20 ppm
Would adding Purigen help?
My test kit is API Freshwater Master

Ammo: 0 ppm
Nitrites: 0 ppm
Nitrates: 40 ppm

Wouldn't bother, 40ppm is ok imho, mine is far higher than that, I try to keep below 80 ppm if I can and have put in extra plants to try to soak it up (as well as water changes of course), it's always been high.

I don't think you can, maybe get a water butt and try rain water instead?
