How Tall A Tank

It wouldn't be impossible to keep one in a 12" high tank. However if you did a 50% water change, the water would go down to 6", if the tank is filled to the top, combine that with sand/gravel and that Oscar has 4-5" of water, would probably be sticking out of the water. Also the low height of the tank would restrict swimming space, a large male (14") wouldn't be able to attack food at the surface well etc.

What are the other dimensions of the tank?

its prob not the best, as most tanks this high, would not be suitable volume wise for a full grown oscar. but the length and depth are prob alot more crucial to the oscar than the height, though I would want atleast 18 or 24" high tank just so the fish isn't swimming in one level of water all the time.

as there others said, when i take 75gallons out f my tank oscars look cramped swimming around and they do like to adventure around the tank so it would be much better to go for something around 24inches :good:

That will be good for maybe 6 months max. After that, I would try and get a 75G or 90G (for the deepness of the tank) for a potentially 12-14" long fish when full grown. :good:

rio 240 is 22inchs high.(55cm) And i heard that 55g was ok? for just 1 oscar nothing else.

It's a tight squeeze. Not saying that you don't, but If you want the best for your Oscar and to see him flourish then you should get a bigger tank. :good:

Ya, the height isn't really the concern on the 55G. The depth (only 12" when the fish can grow to this and above, making it difficult for the fish to turn around) and the volume in total (a very messy fish).

I would normally would recommend atleast a 75G at min for an o by itself
