How Reliable Is A Rummy's Nose?

Hi

Questions in the post.Just introduced 6 to tank that's been running for 3 months.I've previously been checking water for ammonia & nitrite several times a week, and doing 25% weekly water changes.It's been a week and their colour has never faded out.

Changed to API test kit, but having problems telling the difference between 0 & 0.25 Ammonia (read in daylight).The Tetra Test i used before,never gave me anything above 0.When tank water & tap water are tested simultaneously the test tubes look identical.

Forget the tests & trust the Rummys?

I wouldn't like to say 100% trust them but mine are pretty spot on when something is amiss in my tank they just don't look too bright! If I see one with less red I do some checks and W/C

Not completely. There are various species sold as rummy nosed tetras. Not all have the same amount of red.

If the tank in question is pictured in your post there is no ammonia in there. The plants would be eating it. Trust the color of the rummys. And then go out and get another 6. Schooling fish become more and more amazing the more of them there are. The bigger the tank- the more one can have.

Yea that's the tank.Added another 4 to get me up to 10.Currently been 10 days without a waterchange, noses & test kit both show same results.

i have a shoal in with my discus, one im guessing isnt well, the rest are happy, but onehas lost its colour and hasnt regained it in weeks.
