How Old Is A Betta?

Reading another forum post led me to think, how can you tell or guess how old a Betta is from a store such as Petco, Petsmart, or any pet store or LFS?

I know that there is not a definite way of knowing how old a fish is, but maybe there is some way you can guess.

Just an idea though.

Im not to sure. I tend to go by size to be honest and i usually ask them how long they have had the fella for.

Generally breeders sell their stock when they're between 3.5 and 4.5months, depending on size, I guess you could ask the lfs how long they've had him and add that to it fora rough age guess?
