How often do you 'rescue' fry?

We had our first batch of fry about a month ago, we rescued 11, put them into a breeding trap and they lived in there for a month

Yesterday i bought a 25 litre tank specifically for the fry, and we moved them into their new house.

We are now down to 10 as one managed to get caught in the filter :( (now resolved by using a tight over the filter)

I was just wondering, how many of you rescue your fry from main tanks etc? I have 4 female mollies, so i am estimating that i could end up with a batch of fry every couple of months. I dont have the heart to let all of them be eaten by our other fish.

How many of you keep your fry? and if so, how often are your fish giving birth?

Im starting to worry, as i can see myself with having half a dozen tanks full of fry

I dont intend to breed my fish, i have just surprised myself at how interested i actually am at watching them grow etc etc

Sorry for the essay

Most live bearers have fry every 30 days or so. If you keep an eye on the females you will notice that right before she gives birth she will act shy and try to hide maybe in the plants in your tank. Fry are easy enough to raise but you can easily get over run with them

I was instructed by a few people not to worry about them. I needed to let
the fry grow up in the tank with the parents and do 'survival of the fittest'. I myself didn't like the idea, but when they have the babies, and can have up to 70 every month, that sounds like a great plan to me!

If you have tons of plants, then the babies should be okay!

BTW: this will save you the pain of 'culling' your babies, b/c the bigger fish will do it for you. They will get the weak ones, and the strongest of the babies will survive it!

I don't save all of them, but I usually save a few from every batch...if I notice in time. And when I notice, I usually hang out near the tank while the mother is giving birth in case she needs some assistance.

Ive worried too much about this batch of fry, next time i might let nature take its course and put some more plants in my tank.
I have enjoyed looking after them and stuff, but im panicing about what im going to do when these fry get fully grown as i cant really have 10 full grown mollies in a 25 litre tank .... can i?

Can you take them to any of your LFS's and sell them or even just donate them?

I try to save all of the fry I can. Usually if I notice a female is REALLY pregnant, I will try to put her in a breeding trap, but I let them out if they are stressed and dont give birth within a day. I have never caught one of my fish in the big tank giving birth, and never been able to catch any fry from the big tank... also, Ive never had any survivors when they are born in the big tank.

i like to save all the fry i can see, even if i see them the next day! i have to get a new fry net though, it has algee all over it, bleck! i consider those algee collectors.

I could take them to my LFS but dont really fancy it as i cant see them looking after them tbh, i might see if i can sell them and just get people to cover postage costs instead of trying to make any serious money off of them

Could the mollies live in that tank comfortably? (25 litres)

I have been trying to save all my fry, but I'm seriously thinking of seperating my males from my females. My lfs was good enough to buy 9 3-month old fry from me last month to lighten my load, but I don't think they'll continue to buy fry from me every month. If I do breed anymore, I believe I will just leave them and let nature take it's course. I just don't have room for 40 or so fry a month.
