How Much Sand As A Substrate?

Hello all, in the process of changing over my sand. Just wondering how much sand I should put in? as before I had a good 2 inches. The tank is unplanted.

all my plants are real, i have a 2" think sand substrate, enough for roots to grow in.

Mine is about 1 inch thick at the back off the tank and about 3 or 4 mm thick at the front off the tank to add some depth to the tank. I have a planted thank and dont have any trouble in them taken root and growing

If you intend to go with no real plants, you only need enough sand to suit your decorating tastes.
