There were 24 live ones born, 2 still born, and two eggs.
Now I have some questions about the fry.
1. Do they eat the first day?
2. How do you remove the wastes from the trap?
3. What do you do with them when they all grown up?
4. Are these reletivley (sp) big for being newborn?

they are a normal size for a platy baby and they are very colorful! To remove the waste, you just have to go through very carefully with the net. They will probably eat the first day if they have already finished their yolk sac, but if they didnt finish it, then they will most likely not eat. I keep some when they are all grown up, give some to close friends or family, or sell some to my local fish store

Congrats

don't feed them until the second day, finely crushed flake will be fine but fry food is also good.
when they are bigger than the mouth of the biggest fish you can release them into the main tank, then as they grow you can either sell them, give them away or keep them.

glad she has finally had them, great picture good luck :good:

Nice picture and I am glad it hear that she had them and a good amount survived. Good luck with the little guys.

ABOUT TIME, bet shes relieved, massive stretch mark i should imagine :hyper:

Microworms lol

I'm trying to feed them crushed up flake food, but they aren't really eating it, unless the particles are microscopic, and it looks like a speck of dust in the water. Is this normal for the first 2 days or so, or do I really need to crush all of the flakes to a very fine powder. It took me a long time to just get it this powdery...

they do need to be a powder, so carry on crushing :hyper: sorry

Congrats!

My first lot didn't look like they were eating for ages, but they must have been because they grew quite a lot, so don't worry too much!

My platy that looked like she'd never give birth, gave birth on Sunday and then another Sunset Wag that looked pregnant and decided not to be outdone yesterday. It's like buses! I only saved a couple, but would be interesting to compare progress. :)

Are you going to keep any? :)

Yes, actually, I am probably going to keep two in my 10 gallon, and then at the end of this summer, when I get a second 10 gal, I will put 3 or four in there, and my friend just got a tank yesterday, and he is going to take two or three, and maybe if I'm lucky, I will find homes for the rest of them.

Also, I would like to comepare progress as well. We can do it by PM. I will send you a picture once a week, and you can describe them, or send me a picture every week too!
