How Much Is Enough?

Am just wondering how many fish I need to fill in my 40 gallon tank. Is it 1" per gallon? Thanks

general rule is 1" of fish per US gallon not UK

It depends on the fish rather then the size most of them time. If you going to do dish such as tetras, Mollies, Platy, Gourami, etc thats one thing but when you get into the more delicate or aggresive fish you have alot more needs to worry about then inch per gallon. Examples could be Angelfish need 20gal min and a tank thats 18in tall minimum due to some aggression issues and they grow taller vs wider. DP need 3-5 gallons per puffer due to aggression also even though they grow 1-2in.

In the end its easier to help you if you give us an example of the fish you like vs asking how many.
