How much do fish 'see' through their tanks?

My JD can feel the vibrations of us coming down the steps, and then comes to the side of the tank and peeks out to see me in the hallway.

My fish only zoom to the surface when I lift the left lid (there are two). This is the side the food comes from. When I sit down to watch, my female cockatoos come to the front of the glass to watch me. The male usually sees me and goes somewhere else, and often, if I move too quickly I will scare my rope fish...even when I'm not close to the tank.

On a science show they said fish can see 25 metres! Which explains why I can NEVER sneak into the fish room without ol Sunrise(my big Betta) staring fixedly at me the whole time. I even barely peeked in the other day, just one eye and abit of my hair and he STILL spotted me and stared fixedly right at me. Oh yeah heck they can see just GREAT. Particularly when food is on the line!
