Hi

I have had a tank before which i had Tiger and Rosie Barbs in but my partner fell into my tank and smashed it :( so i lost all of my fish.

I have brought a new globe tank which is 45 litres. Its is an Aqua EL bowl 45 with internal filteration and heater. I am going thjrough a fishless cycle of the tank now.

I have been looking at a new fish for this tank particularly the Siamese Fighting fish (betta). How many of these fish would you recommend for this tank and are they ok to be put in a newly cycled tank? will males and females get on ok? and what ratio should i have them (male to female)

I look forward to hearing from you

J

One male per tank, they fight otherwise, or have 5 females or so in one large tank. No mixing males together, no mixing males and females together (unless spawning)

You can not have males with other bettas (male or female). If my calculation is correct 45 liters is about 11 gallons. You could have about 7 females, if there are plenty of hiding spots. Make sure you have a back up plan in case one of the girls gets too rough! Females are generally less aggressive than the males, but not always.

i have six females in a 60L tank.

as mentioned above, no mixing of males and females. and definitely, only one male per tank. so you may want to make this a females betta tank :fun:

with regards to your size tank, 45L, the thought is that one fish per gallon. so i am not sure how many gallons is 45L.

also, you want at least 5 or more females.

good luck.

Thanks :good:

Can i add these fish before the tanks has finished cycling? are they hardy?

If not should i add them into the tank in stages or can i add them together?

J

Don't add them until the tank has completely cycled. You are best adding them all at once but keep an eye on your water stats.

well, i waited 24 hours to add mine to my tank. i didn't do the fishless cycling method.

my girls were all aggressive and now they are get along mostly. i think i have one big alpha and one small one that thinks she is alpha. hmmmm....and of course, what sorority would be complete if it didn't have a runt, a sweet young girl from the country!

it's taken a bit over 2 weeks for them to settle down but there was quite a lot of nipping going on. so if you go the female route, please just keep an eye out for nipping behavior and that you create lots of hiding places with plants and other interesting fish tank nooks and crannies.

good luck!
