I have had my heart set on these fish for some time now. I want a pair I don't care if they breed I just want 2 fish that like each other. So since none of my LF can get a hold of these guys I'm going to order them online. I'm thinking of getting six 2" fish. putting them all in my 55 gal tank. Then let them grow up together and keep the best pair.

Has anyone done this? How did you rehome the extra fish? Do you think a fish store would buy them off me or give me store credit for them? I have a feeling mine will give me store credit. Since for some reason these fish are hard to come by around here.

I'm afraid I will get attached to more then 2 of them.

six is a good number to start with and you should get a pair from them quite easily. If you cant find a store to take them from you, you could always try places like here, other forums, web sites to re-home, if they are hard to come by in your areas, you wont have a problem. Until you get a pair, ensure you have plenty of areas for them each to claim as their own, to ease any aggression between them.

I agree with minxfishy.

Thanks guys. I will be ordering some as soon as my tank fully cycled. The way my water is reading it should only be about a week till it's done. My nitrates are just now showing up at 5.0 My nitrites are still high but my ammonia is at 0. Oh I am so excited...

Do you think it would be a good idea to buy 6 from the same place, or 3 from one place and 3 from another?

personally if i'm aiming to get a pair i'll buy from seperate shops that get their stock from different places, just because i'm not a fan of inbreeding (although i'm aware that my fish are probably inbred :p)

That's what I thought too. I talked to the seller he said the fish he gets are mass bred in pounds. so who knows how indred they are. But I'm thinking 2 different places to see what one has better fish too.
