How many remakes are being done this year for gods sake, have we really run out of new film scripts? Tonight I have seen advertised:

Omen (Original is one of my all time favourite films)
Poseidon

Also out this year apparently are: (and these are only ones I remember the originals of)
The 39 steps
Casino Royale
Day of the Dead
Evil Dead
Flash Gordon
The Fly
I dream of Jeannie
The munsters
Piranah
Porkys :hey:
Revenge of the Nerds
Superman Returns
The Swiss Family Robinson

And of course we've had
Pink Panther
King Kong

Surely someone out there can make an original blockbuster, can't they?

How many more have I missed?

They shouldn't ever touch "Revenge of the Nerds". omg I am a weeny, I always cry at the end.

Also, why are they messing with The Omen? it was good enough without any fiddling.

Asking questions like that gets nowhere. Otherwise you start saying things like "why the Ewoks, George?" or "why does the most number of lines have to go to a mutant rabbit called Jar-Jar?".

You can then progress to "Sly, do you really think the world wants another rocky (As in 6) and then Bruce Willis hears and wants Die Hard 4.

And that;s just bad sequels. I can only assume some idiot director watches a film and decides that he can do better; tries, fails but never mind, it had Tom Cruise so still took lots of money.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been the best remake that I have seen so far - I LOVE Johnny Depp.

Psyco was a remake - haven't seen it - is it worth seeing?

The Hills Have Eyes (I've never seen either of these)

Police Academy is one rumored to be in the works.

Superman Returns is not a remake either. It's a sequel that ignores Superman 3 & 4.

Speaking of comic movies though, here are some remakes, most of which you probably never knew were remakes:

Batman Begins (more a relaunch than remake), Spiderman (awful movie done in the 70's) Punisher (awful movie done in the 80's), The Fantastic Four (had an unreleased but pirated movie done in the 90's, also awful)

A list of some older remakes: at Amazon

the 'new' bond film is not the only re-hash of one "never say never again" was a remake of the classic bond film "thunderball", although the former is not considered cannon; even though it has Sean Connery in it :dunno:

they are remaking the fly!
is that a remake of the remake or a remake of the original? :S

As a rule I don't watch re-makes....... my ONLY ever exception being "Dawn of the dead" In my opinion it was like a completely different film.
As for sequels,I tend not to bother..... Sad to say that Dirty Dancing is one of my all time "girlie" flicks...I.was on a flight to usa and had no choice but to watch "Dirty dancing 2".....wasn't really a sequel......just a very, very ,very bad film!!!!!

I had to watch "Titanic" on a flight to the States, oh good, a disaster movie, why don't you just put "Alive" on?

 It's the large firey ball at the center of our solar system, but that's not important right now ;)

Dear god, don't let them spoil that

Here's some remakes I just heard of reading a friend's magazine: Creature from the Black Lagoon, Flicka (with Lindsey Lohan maybe), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (possibly with Jim Carrey), Get Smart, Welcome Back Kotter, and Dallas (with John Travolta, Jennifer Lopez, Luke Wilson, and Shirley MacLaine).

And here's some sequels coming: Mortal Kombat: Devastation, Mrs. Doubtfire 2, The Punisher 2, The Santa Clause 3, Saw III.

Plus the article said that for the 11th Star Trek movie, Paramount Pictures wants to relaunch the franchise with an all new cast as Capt. Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, and the gang.

There's so much retread in the movie industry. My husband and I have always joked that one of these days they'll remake Citizen Kane with Jim Carrey. :/

The new Charlie and the Chocolat factory movie was actually a LOT closer to the book and, in my opinion, much better.
