Hi there,

I recently had a large number of deaths to either gill flukes or toxins introduced from a piece of driftwood. I originally had marbled hatchetfish, Purple Dwarf Pencilfish (Nannostomus rubrocaudatus), and gertrudae rainbows. I lost a large number of these fish, and was thinking that instead of re-stocking the rainbows again, I'd just do larger numbers of pencilfish (maybe two types?) and hatchetfish.

I have a 3-ft 65 gallon tank.

How many hatchetfish could I do?

How many pencilfish? I was thinking red (Nannostomus mortenthaleri) instead of purple this time. My LFS also has Brown-tailed (nannobrycon eques) , dwarf (Nannostomus marginatus) and one-lined (nannobryon unifasciatus).

Or any other ideas?

I also have 2 Laetacara Araguaiae, 2 Apisto Baenschi Inka, 3 Farlowella catfish, 8 kuhli loaches, 2 stiphodon gobies.

I only have 4 hatchetfish, 2 gertrudae rainbows, and 1 purple pencilfish (marginatus) left.

I would say you could easily add a dozen hatches maybe 18 if you stick with the marbles. And 12- 18 each of two of the pencil fish.

I do have marbles and plan on sticking with them.

Thanks!

OK, I am throwing around other stocking ideas.

Right now the N. Mortenthaleri aren't available in the numbers I want, so I will start with the hatchets/N. eques and go from there. I am thinking that I could choose the Pencilfish OR the Cardinals/Rubies?

Fish in bold are those I will be adding - non-bolded are current residents.

TOP TO BOTTOM (I think pretty close to this specific order?):
- 10 marbled hatchets
- 12 Nnannostomus eques (brown pencilfish)
- 2 gertrudae rainbows (sorry guys)

- 7 N. Mortenthaleri (red arc pencilfish)
OR
- 10 Cardinal tetras OR Ruby Tetra (Axelodria riesei)

- 1 purple pencil (rubrocaudatus - sorry, lady)
- 7 Hyphobressycon bentosi / rosaceus (White fin / Ornate tetra)
- 2 Laetacara A. (mine definitely use the middle part of the tank as well as the bottom, unlike the Apisto)
- 3 farlowella
- 2 Stiphodon gobies
- 2 Apisto baenschi inka
- 8 kuhli loaches

Overstocked?
What would you do?

The choice is up to you. Personally I think you would be fine with that stocking, however you decide to go. I just wish I lived close to wetspot....
