hi i have just set up a 75gal tank and i hav transferred filters etc. and i am wondering im anybody knows the best amount of geo's to keep i was thinking maybe 3 as a minimum for my american cichlid tank.

currently in the tank there is: 4x pictus cats, 1x L200 green phantom and a vieja argentea

if anybody can point me in the right direction or confirm a trio will be enough it will be greatly appreciated.

cheers andy

well hello there stranger!! long time no see. geos will do best in a group yes , when i had my surinamensis i had agression problems , so maybe more than 3 would be better , perhaps 5 or 6 . but with the pictuss cats and the plec youre going to be pretty heavy on bottom dwellers .

Minimum 3, but 4 would be better, I wouldnt add more in a 75g, however, keep an eye on the Vieja, whilst argentea are more placid than say Vijea Bifa, they can still get aggressive and Im not sure a surinamensis would be able to withstand it.

4 or 5 are better for geos but to be fair not sure how they will mix with the Argentina - though Ill be interested to see how it goes as I LOVE Argentinas :D

anoo been a while :)

and i know about the bottom dwelling issue but i was gonna assume 3 may be good i might go for 4 if needs be but i think i might chance it the geo's are only about 2.5-3" in my work so should be fine for a while but as you know the temptation for a bigger tank is always lurking in the back of the mind.

any ways hows things with you :)

i know i might try 4 and i have done my studying on my vieja and i hear they are quite tempermental but i used to have a green terror around 10" who was a big mardy so theres always acceptions.

and i know i have been trying to get hold of an argentea for a while any my mate got one in for me at his shop so got it fairly cheap its only about 3" but he is feeding well on prima and hikari cichlid gold so he will most probs fly up in size in no time.

all good mate cheers. tanks gone through a hell of a change tho. all the sevs etc have been sold on , even vinny! but its all good tho as he lives with star4 so hes got a good home , now im well and truly on the road to becoming a full on discus freak  . i remember when i had my 3 surinamensis that when i 2st got them they were frightfuly shy and would stick together and run away from their own shadows, but once they put on a bit of size they became extremely teritorial , i had to sell them on in the end as they were becoming a nightmare.

that argentea will be a beauty when it grows , easily my fave veija , stunning fish

haha nothing wrong with being a discus freak we have some stunners in work my mate at work just closed his marine tank down for a discus set up they are quite addictive. hmm i have heard of them being very shy when they are first introduced but i am going to smother my tank in driftwood soon. have you seen a guy called lee nuttals tank on youtube and pfk WOW thats what sparked my love for the argentea but he has a v.regani which is a beaut but hard sods to find lol. decisions decisions ey

ooooooooo also does anybody have any ideas on what dithers i can add in and if possible are they from america :)

cant help as far as dithers go , cos ive never actually kept veijas so i dont know what they are like . davo86 is pretty well clued up on things like this tho mate . i rekon he would be a good person to ask as far as dithers are concerned

cheers anyway i might sway away from america and get some arulius barbs they are nice fish and get to a decent size.
