Hi, my tank is 30" by 12". (How many gallons is this ?)

Not going to put any big fish in there, biggest will prob be a guppy size.

Quite a few plants.

Whats a good amount of fish and whats the max in your opinion ?

thanks lee ;)

Need all the measurements to tell you what the volume is. As for how many fish, that depends on lots of factors including:

- type of fish
- type of filter
- maintenence

What's the other dimension on your tank? 30" long by ?" wide and ?" tall.....

Can't calculate the volume without all 3 numbers, unless someone else happens to have a tank that's the same size :p

I've always been told 1 inch of fish, 1 gallon of water. Followed this to the button and have never had a problem.

for you aquarium's volume go here (http://www.dep.state.pa.us/dep/deputate/waterops/Redesign/calculators/volcalchtm.htm) and guesstimate how much displacement you have.

According to a surface area calc (which i feel is more a more accurate guidleine than the old 1" of fish per gallon thing) you can have 30 inches of small bodied fish as a beginner. An experienced keeper could stock up to 45 inches in the same tank assuming great filtration. Fish with larger bodies will have to count as more inches than their exact length, and it is easier to overstock very small bodied fish like the tiny tetras.

My tank is a 20 gallon long which has the same footprint as yours but only 12" high, so yours is probably a 25 gallon.

23 (UK) Gallons or 88 Litres according to Volume Calculator.

There's also another post kicking around with a calculator which also recommends stocking density.
