how many young discus is best to buy to keep together to spread any picking on etc.

id heard about 6-8 wud u agree?

depends on how young.

2" need to be in a shoal to do well 15-20 is best
at 2-3" I find groups of 10 plus to be ideal
4"+ 6-8 works well

It's not only the age of the fish, but how big is the tank?

Like Mike said, smaller Discus normally feel more comfortable in bigger groups, or smaller tanks. This is really only when they are quite small though (1.5-2 icnhes)

Remember though, all Discus grow. Stick 15 Discus into a 55 gallon you you will need to get ride of the majority of them.

Normally the rule I like to recommend is 1 Discus each gallon. With a minimum of 5 Discus you are looking at a 50 gallon tank.

5+ Discus is fine. 6-8 is fine too depending on the size of the tank.

i have learned to get eather 1 or 3+.
i like one because they learn to be so freindly towards you and other fish. for example, mine hangs out with my shark and blue rams.

One fish is not a good idea, and neither is three. Discus in the wild are not solitary species. They suffer greatly when left by themselves. Three fish are likely to bicker until one and then two of them die.

I always stress this. PLEASE do not submit information if you do not know exactly what you are talking about.
