I picked up a bargain 3 ft tank today & want to do just a cory tank.
I love the albinos, they seem to use the whole tank, not just the bottom.
How many could I have, would 10/12 be too many?

I just measured it.
It's 40" long, 18" deep & 18" high

10-12 seems to me just fine, even a bit more could be fine if you will have just corys and don't put useless decorations that only takes space, even if it looks good.
I would get if I were your some higher decorations like taller driftwood covered in plants and driftwood, plenty of caves made of stones together or coconut and they love resting on java moss and plant leaves like the big leave anubias in my signature.
Get a good flow around the tank, they do appreciate it if they are the albino aeneus species. And I am presuming you will put sand
Make sure tank is completely cycled before you put them in though as they will stress.

You don't need to start with a big bunch as you may get babies in a while. I've got my first survivor.

It'll be medium planted with some swords, crypts & some wood with moss & anubias.
Not sure about coconut caves, I have some slate that could be used for caves, definitely sand substrate, I love watching them sift through it.
It won't be a show tank as such, just a nice cory tank for me & them to enjoy.
I might start with 8 just in case they decide to breed, would love to have baby corys
It does need a really good clean, will have to wait for a warm day & get the hosepipe on it outside

Sounds perfect to me.
I don't have coconut caves either. Slate caves will be probably just fine if you don't mind the look  but it probably depends how you arrange and decorate with plant.
If you have spare flat round stones and make a bit of a cave here and there will be a bonus. My corys have made the caves I made from stones twice as big. I've seen 3 corys flying out of one tiny cave when the pleco decided to take a look what the hassle was about(food left overs) They've made their own proper hole into the sand under it.

And they will certainly breed. I am sure of it :)

I would say a good 12 or so quite easily of any of the larger varieties, leaving room for upper stocking, 15 or 16 of the smaller (C. Pygmaeus, C. Panda, etc)

If you wanted purely Corys, i would make sure theres a good few places to hide out, and plant out the tank so as to block a fair bit of the light, growing near the top, not too bright at the bottom, they dont appreciate bright light a great deal, some will hide a lot. You'll have a bottom heavy but very interesting to watch tank.

Thank you for the input
Can't wait to get it cleaned up & cycled now, luckily I'll be able to take some media from my community tank, so cycling shouldn't take too long
I really have fallen for corys, they're so entertaining

The albinos are not really shy and don't hide unless there is water quality issues(tiny ammounts of ammonia have made mine stressed and staying at the bottom for longer periods of time). They are better than the Api liquid test kit for sure. Regardless, I don't think they know they are bottom fish either. You will notice movement all around the tank at all times if they feel happy.

I already have 4 & they tend to use most of the tank, that's why I like the albinos so much.
They rarely hide & whizz about everywhere

Here are a few pictures of mine with the lights full blast during the day. Mine must be blind  . You'll barely see a cory on the sand most of the time. I'll be upping the numbers soon hopefully but I am getting the gold/green laser aeneus and maybe some black shultzei(although labeled black aeneus venezuela)

That set up looks amazing!!!

I have 9 sterbai in a 3ft they are adult as well and to be honest I dont see them enough to thin the tank is too small for 9

That's a lovely looking tank you have Snazy.
That's sort of how I want this new one to look, plenty of space for them to swim about in

Thanks guys. My partner decorated it for me as I was told my other two tanks suck. Excuse my language . I only picked the driftwood and setup the hardware stuff. The good part is it is a low tech, no ferts no nothing besides dechlorinator and the plants and fish are loving it.

And just a small video of one of the female corys excited over an anubias leaf. The breeder box above contains the one cory baby I've managed to hatch so far in months  I've decorated it a bit more since yesterday with sand and more plants.
