How Long Till Sand Sets?

Still hasnt completely settled.

i really need to start putting the fish back soon.

yes it is true even if you have media in the way your also going to shot blast the sand with fine particles when it is set up anyway might take a while but it does wear the impellor a lot faster than normal use

Not when it's filled with filter floss. That's the whole point, fine particles such as sand are captured and don't make it to the impeller.
im talking about the particles you cant even see filter floss will not stop something as small as those fine particles going to the impellor

By that theory anyone with sand in there tanks should have filters breaking left right and centre. I think you're being overly cautious here and maybe just got burned by a dodgey filter?
I've seen enough people with sand bottomed freshly done tanks that haven't had a single issue so long as they used plenty of filter floss before the sand could get to the impellor.

not left right and centre what im saying is it does increase the wear over time

The particles are really small and can get sucked into the filtration system and completely destroy pumps in hours. So make sure to keep your pumps away from the substrate.
Also, make sure you don’t have an underwater filter, which is pure hell with sand, and will make your tank, not only look gross, but be gross.

but stray grains of sand can damage the impeller of a hanging style filter,

taken from another forum after a quick google session

Undergravel (referred to here as under water) cannot be used with sand at all.

Hang on filters are the ones I mentioned where the impeller comes before filter media.

And your quotes make no mention of filter floss. Please don't quote where you have no prior experience of what I'm describing to compare against your own opinion.

Put the fish back in they look fine.
my kuhil loaches love it!

mine was like that in both tanks late at night, and a few hours later early in the morning it was clear. hopefully it'll be clear for you later/tomorow. if not, just do another water change ;)

i can quote what i like did'nt realise you were a mod

as stated even with the floss first the prop will still be exposed to small particles

anyway apologies to the OP
