How Long Till Sand Sets?

what is the fastest way to make the sand set filter on or off?
 
hopefully when you done the sand you poured the water onto a dinner plate

Not true. It really depends on how the filter is set up (ie what comes first, impeller or filter media). And the safe bet is to just stuff it full of filter floss if it needs to stay on. The filter floss will catch all the particles of sand and should help to clear it.

yes it is true even if you have media in the way your also going to shot blast the sand with fine particles when it is set up anyway might take a while but it does wear the impellor a lot faster than normal use
 
Well when i changed to sand, my sand I left it for about 45 minutes before i turned the filter back, sand settles fairly quickly, I certainly dont feel theres any need for you to leave the filter off all night. But then again in my external Rena filtar xp2 the water passes through media and into the impeller last.

Not when it's filled with filter floss. That's the whole point, fine particles such as sand are captured and don't make it to the impeller.
 
the sand in my tank only took 10 minutes to settle :blink: and that was just pouring it right on in lol

I did water change and poured it over something, and now it is more clear.
hopefully soon it will set so they can go back in
