How Long Does It Take To Grow A Tail.

My 3 year old Betta is having a hard time swimming to the top. A month ago he lost his tail and was treated for fungal infection. He lays at the bottom most of the time. He is upright, and not laying on his side and looks healthy otherwise. How long does it take to grow a tail?

I have him in a small tank. Should I lower his water level temporarily to make it easier for him to get to the top

I've had bettas without much by the way of a tail and they've been fine little swimmers. If he isn't moving much, I'd wager that something else might be wrong.

Lower the water level (but remember to keep him warm) if he doesn't seem to be getting up for air.

Can you post a picture?

His tail should grow back to a fully useable level in a few weeks.

Thanks, sorry I can't post a picture but that is encouraging that his tail could grow back within a few weeks. It's not totally gone, he got a little stub left
Only other thing I can think of that could be wrong, my fish is always sickly after a water change..full or partial. Our city uses tons of chlorine in the water, but I let it sit for several days and I add water balancer to the water, but there is something in the water because it happens everytime. I've checked the ph and it's always within normal range.

This poor fish was sickly right from the time I bought him. I almost lost him several times but he's like a cat with nine lives, he always comes back

I notice on your signature that you mention divided tanks...you mention a larger divided tank? Just curious what you mean by divided tank..how can you tell I'm a novice...we can't buy divided tanks around here, it's 5, 10, 20 gal and up.
