Hi All,

I've had my Eheim external set-up on my tank for about 18 month's, and due to the length of pipe work supplied I've had to mount the inlet and spray bar on the same side of the tank ( I guess by looking @ forums, that a lot of people have them this way ).

Anyway the water clarity has never been great, and I'm toying with buying some more tubing and having the spray bar mounted on the other side of the tank - hoping to get less of a circular type of flow which is going on in there @ the moment.

I've already got a 2800 lph powerhead @ the far side aiming towards to the filter inlet, but as the water returns from the filter it seems to create a current which causes small particles to avoid the inlet ( if that makes sense ).

My tanks just over a metre long by 550 mm high by 470 mm wide ( 250 litres ), it's a planted tank with a mixture of rummy nose tetras / sterbi / 5 no discus ( so can't really have a mega amount of circulation ). I'm doing 50% water changes every 2 to 3 week, and my external is serviced every 3 months.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Nick

i have a aqua one ufo 550 with a fluval 205 external,,, they only supplied one pipe which you have to split in half therefore i had to buy another 2 pipes...anyway my inlet and outlet are directly next to each other as there is no other way for me to put them and my tank and contents seem to be fine.

What media do you use in filter?

I use material from cheap pillows at supermarket, same as filter floss which catches all the finer particals

most of the time this is a maintainance issue and nothing to do with the filter itself....i dont think doing what you are describing is going to help the water conditions or clarity

* nelly nelly - using eheim substrate ( noodles/balls ), along with three course sponges and polishing wool. Get my polishing mating off eBay ( about £7 for 2metres ). Bought new pipe work today and have moved the spray bar to the other side of the tank, only just finished doing it but seem's to be better already.

24 hour update... Tanks looking loads better, due to improved flow of circulation.
