How Is My Tank Looking?

Hello. I would like to know if i am over crowded, or if i have a little bit more room in my tank. It has:
2 1" angels
2 small snails
2 1.5" lyretail swordtails
3 1" giant danios
2 panda barbs, one 1", and the other 2"

you need 50 uk gallons for giant danio and you need to keep at least 6 really same with the angel fish really

As said tanks for angels need to be 18 inches tall at least but the other fish have a few issues in the tank as well. The giant danios are a bit to big and active for a 3 foot tank IMO, I would perhaps swap those 3 for 3 or 4 more panda barbs. Also when working out the long term stocking of a tank dont worry about the size of the fish right now its more about when they are adult as the angels will grow to 5-7 inches tall and long. If you wanted to keep danios as well I would look at a school of the smaller growing species like lepoard or zebra or if you can find them one of the rarer strains coming into the hobby now.

just saying ive had them for three months and have had no problems... i haven't had any deaths in atleast 4 months.

all im saying is your lucky so far, at the end of the day fish dont know what kind of requirements they need and they dont know they are going to grow too big for a tank. These rules are basically a middle point where fishkeepers have agreed it is fair for fish to be kept, minimum tank size and correct numbers of schooling fish are probably the most basic ones for you to follow and something you should have been thinking about when you bought the fish.

Your not going to have issues with the danio or angels getting to big right now but in under a year they will, I used to keep angels about a year ago and mine got from .5 inches to 8 inches tall and long in a little over a year just to give you an idea of their growth speed.

I still stand by my original advice though if the tank is 18 inches tall rehome 2 of the angels, rehome the danio and add 4-5 more panda barbs. If the tank is less than 18 inches tall rehome all of the angels, rehome the danio and add 4-5 more panda barbs.

Good spot on the Giant Danios people... I talked about making it a 5+ group when the tank is not big enough for any of them as juniors, let alone adults. I missed the 30 gallon size until just re-reading this thread now...

Many, if not all Danios are energetic fish, which need longer tanks than the average fish of the same size. For instance, my 4.5-5cm Pearl Danios (still not full size, reach ~6cm) can easily swim the length of my 4 foot long tank in a second, even swimming against my 1850l/hr Eheim stream current when on maximum!

Its not about deaths, even though its great all bought fish have survived so far (sadly I've lost a Pearl Danio and a Yellowtail Congo Tetra ), its about giving fish a suitable environment for their needs

Agreed. Just because you can put 50 5 inch fish in a 30 gallon tank doesn't mean you should. The fish you have chosen have special needs. If you are not able to meet those needs, choose different suitable fish.
