Afternoon TFF!

How important are aquascaping tools? I've seen straight tweezers, bend twweezers, straight scissors, bend scissors and I was wonding... How importants are these tools to a decent looking planted aquarium...

Will regular kitchen scissor cut the mustard? Should I ruin the misses' eyebrow tweezers? Will they do as substitutes or just I bust out the Master Card?

I've been meaning to get a proper set of tools for ages now, just haven't been able to justify the expense. Currently my 'tool kit' consists of a pair of hair scissors, a pair of tweezers liberated from my girlfriend's slap bag and a fish slice  for smoothing substrate.

Just been looking on TGM and they have a pair of 25cm straight scissors for £9.99 and a 27cm straight tweezers for £11.95. Seems reasonable in comparison to some of the other items listed...

Currently my tools consist of a pair of scissors from tesco and my hands. The tools are way too expensive to be worth it.

All i have is aquascaping scissors and some 30cm tweezers, i dont see a need for anything more, i wouldnt use them.

Geoff how much did you pay for those tools? and would you say that they were worth the money?

I would like some long handled scissors, but can't justify the cost so make do with nail scissors for now!

very important,

straight tweesers - ideal for foreground planting, or at the edges.

curved tweesers - ideal for getting behind rocks/ wood and into nooks & cranny's

straight scissors - for stem trimming

curved scissors for foreground trimming. I dont have these and i am currently having a real battle trimming my hairgrass properly, and any other foreground/ low plants.

dont skimp on scissor quality, aquascaping tools should give a clean cut, unlike some cheaper versions which tend to snap the stem, or not cut at all!!

you can get away with 1 of each though. kitchen scissors are fine if they are a decent pair, after all, you can see the results the give

Scissors, yes as they are very sharp - good for cutting stem plants which i have a lot of

Tweezers, yes as i can plant stuff without overflowing my tank.

My tanks open top so i have it rather full, if i stick my whole arm in it overflows
I think if I filled my tank that much I would live in paranoid about it spilling D:

Its fine as long as no-one sticks their whole arm in, my cabinet is super stable. Its currently about 1cm (maybe less) from the top. :p

Before i add fish, ill cover it somehow, as it would be an easy jump...

I use a surgical kit very similar to this one though mine contained a pair of angled scissors.
