I've just been fitting a bedroom in this womans house., we where talking as u do, we got onto the subject of fish.
She showed me her tank, and i could't not belive my eyes.

It was a 64ltr/14gallon, with a undergravel filter, (24*12*15)

2 angels 2 1/4"
2 clown loach at 2"
1 key hole chiclid 2 1/2"
1 dwarf gourami 2"
2 guppys 1"
2 tetras 1"
2 golden pencilfish 1"
1 black ghost 3"

=22" of fish,

She dose a 100% water change every 2 month, where she strips the tank and washes the gravel. :dunno:

recomended stock =18" 4" over an growing, hows she been getting away with it fir so long? :dunno:

It's a matter of time :p

The angels, keyholes, pencilfish and especialy the clown loach and knife are not yet full grown. Just wait until they are...

Well they'll be dead soon. I suppose the fish that aren't full grown are relatively slow growing though I'm sure the pencils and keyholes would have grown considerably more by now - it's the effect of the lack of water changes that's keeping them from growing normaly probably.

Thing is, there will come a point when she is over the stocking limmit by quite a bit more and the fish will get sick from stress and poisoned and die... Any that remain will get eaten by the knife. The clown loaches will surely die of ich as soon as stressed from bad water quality and if the angels survive that long, they'll be swimming with their dorsal out of water... If the knife survives all this, (or the clowns) it'll have to bend double over to fit in the tank.

As I said it's just a matter of time... poor fish :(

You'd be surprised what fish can live through... I remember when I was about 7 years old and my mom had a 10 gallon tank with 3 common goldfish and a fantail. She only did a 100% water change about once or twice A YEAR
Needless to say, it has been a real effort getting her to understand why I clean my tanks out as much as I do

i know what u mean i had a 10 gal tank with 2 gold fish when i was a kid, and every time my little cousen came she aways felt the need to feed my fish with some of her dinner. sausage, chips, buns u name it, thinking back i'm suprised they didnt crowk it sooner.

I do a 100% water change... but only every other year. Thats generally when I change my mind about the layout, or the subtrate or something.

But yikes. Thats waaay too many fish for that tank.

Man, that is bad. But there are a few peeps i now that dont change their water that often. I feel like saying "Well stay in those same clothes for a year and see how you feel" lol.

Those angels are definitely stunted. After 1 year of proper care, the fins should be around the size of my outstretched hand. All mine are that size or bigger after 1 year. I'm 6' & 220#, not a midget, got big hands. If those angels are that small, the rest of the fish can't be much better. If she can afford to have her bedroom done, she can afford a bigger tank.

I was talking to her husband he said, she had over £5000 of handbags, the same again in shoes, as for her cloths and acssesories dont go there, i recon if u add all her cloths, jewely, acssesories, shoes etc, together they could of payed there morgage off or started a small fish shop off lol :D :D :D :D , not that u'de want them to. :X :X

Some people get lucky for a while. I don't understand it either. My brother-in-law has a 10 gallon tank with FIVE common goldfish and they are HUGE!! These fish grew to be that way in this tank from babies. He doesn't change the water that often and the little whisper filters get so clogged they can barely seep water sometimes. The gravel is at least 2 inches thick with detritus piled up in it, you can see that through the glass. It sits in the tall gravel and rots. I just don't understand.

What gets me is this gives him the opportunity to tell me his fish are "happy" and I don't know what I'm talking about when I tell him I wouldn't even have those fish in my 55 gallon!

It was a little satisfying when he had to trade the pleco in eventually....for the same reasons I warned him that he would. It ate the scales off of one of the fish, harassed the others to no end, and grew so big it couldn't sit in the tank straight.

This guy has had this tank like this for at least 2 years now. I just don't understand. I do look for it to croak one day though.
