Hi

I have just finished putting water in the 48 gal tank,i used hosepipe flowing on plate method, hardly any cloudiness :good:

I 've just turned the 200w heater on and was wondering how long it normally takes to get up to temperature of 26 degrees?,the light keeps going on and off so i assume its working!

Thanks

if the heater is clicking on and off then i would say its at the required temp. when it turns on and off it means that its heated to the set temp so turns off to not heat it anymore to keep the desired temp :good:

It should only take a few hours to start getting close to the final temperature. The heater itself affects the water temperature that it measures so it takes a while of running to become stable at the final temperature.

I used a few kettles full of water to help it speed up the heating a little, but yes it will keep clicking on and off

Thanks everyone, :good:

It's heating slowly,i haven't got the filter on at the moment to circulate it around,i'll just leave it for now,i've put in my digital thermometer and its slowly going up in temp:rolleyes:

Without circulation it will turn on & off. It is heating the water directly around it, sensing the water is warmer, and turning off. This means that only the water immediately around it is heating to the set temperature.

Get some circulation in there, if even an air stone, and it will heat faster, as the heater won't turn off until the proper temperature is reached for the entire volume of water.

get the filter on and get some liquid ammonia in there to begin the bacteria growth while its heating..U dont plan on throwing fish straight at it do you on a brand new filter?

thanks all
I have now got the filter on,after transferring all mature media to external filter, hoping in will clone and not cause any spikes,i have only added across what was in the 20 gal tank ,stats ok at the moment.

Have you not got a separate thermometer? You can't trust that the heater will maintain the water at the temp you set it to. That's only a guide, most heaters just aren't that accurate Read what the thermometer says and adjust the tempof the heater accordingly.

Edit - And having written that, I checked my temp on my main tank and it was too high so I needed to adjust the heater.

I was just looking at the digital thermometer in the tank,it has crept upto 27.2 now, will turn the heater down :good:
