Hello folks,

i recently bough my fishies some frozen foods, it was a quintet pack. So there are blood worms, brine shrimp, daphnia and something else.

But the fish seem to like the dried food more. Has anyone else tried this stuff?

As frozen food, I feed mainly thawed bloodworm and a mix - and now and again some mussel which they also enjoy. They seem to prefer the bloodworm though.
It might take a little time to get used to a new food / treat.

I bought the quintet stuff, must still have some in the freezer, but they got it stuck in their gills a lot, I've gone back to the TetraDelica.

 stuck in their gills!! I am going to try the brine shrimp tonight to see what they do with that.

I take it the frozen food is much more nutritional for the fish

I've bought the quintet before and the didn't seem to like the black things (whatever they were...)

I feed mine:

Bloodworms
Daphnea
Brine Shrimps

All of which they love, the only problem is the loaches like them frozen food so much, they generally wolf it all down before anything else has a chance and end up with rather swollen bellies...

Mine are never all that interested in the dried stuff, but like the frozen far more. However, the daphnia don't seem to go down well. Everything else does though.
Maybe they just need time to get used to it?

When I had gouramis they much loved frozed bloodworms...I usually feed them that almost everyday, with the frozen stuff once a week or so.

Now I'm trying to get my cichlids on a more varied diet...But I don't think theres much frozen stuff out there for Mbuna cichlids..

My larger fish like bloodworms and all including my adult Endlers go crazy for daphnia

I take it that Daphnia, bloodworms and brine shrimp are the three main foods for fish, because there doesn't seem to be much else that you can buy. apart from tubifex maybe.

I always keep some Hikari frozen bloodworms in the freezer for times when I cannot get a supply of live blackworms. IMHO, they are a poor substitute for live food, but better than nothing.

:D

so where can you get live foods from? I live in inverness and I cant see being able to get anything like that up here. :dunno:

Have you thought about culturing your own live food? You can buy brineshrimp eggs and hatch them or you can culture other things like worms, I know BigC on this website sells them, he has a link to them in his signature :)

I have actually thought about getting those brine shrimp hatching things, and make my own.

just never got round to it. Are they quite easy to do?
