Hello

im currently breaking my tank down and wanted to sell some of my fish but wanted to know how do you post fishes and what is the best way. would want it to be as safe as possible

thanks

Firstly are u in the UK as laws may be different?
In the UK u can post fish via royal mail (even if they dont like the idea in the post office) but the law states it can only be fish fry not adult!!!!

Can I ask BigC, how do you get the oxygen into the bags, what do you use? And how doesnt it escape when you are trying to tie the bag up, just wondering as I have to post fish in a couple of weeks and we are also discussing on another thread? :)

Edit: No worries, just been told airline/airpump :good:

The old method of either tying the bag quickly dbl knot or insert an airline quickly withdraw and do all of the above. Years of practice negates the use of the pump

hello

yeh im in the uk

i was thinking put the fishes in the bag. hold bag around the mouth blow into and quickly tie.

but what i was thinking was is a heat pack neccessary in this weather. and does it need to be a poly box.

Dont blow into bag - Carbon Dioxide not Oxygen
Heatpack in summer - No
Poly Box - Yes

Ditto do not blow in to the bag.

Postage via royal main special delivery for 500g is £5 and you should post fry only, dont mean u have to but if someone opens it your be in trouble.
Funny thing though these rules, u cant post a adult guppy at 1.5 inched but u can post a baby shark at 24 inches!!!!!!
The law was basically created for trout farms to post trout eggs and fry between farms, but we abuse this rule :)

just read the link. very informative..

will think about doing it that way. seems the safes and im sure better then how the fish arrive in the uk in the first place.

where can i get poly boxes from apart from raiding the local hospital.

hmmmmmm... interesting.. will maybe have to lie in wait while the organ cars drive out.. lol

will check down my lfs .. but the women there is a right grumpy old b****...

she doesnt seem like she gives a flying monkeys about fish...

will see what i can do.

thanks for the info. found ur article very informative. should be pinned if it isnt.

Put the fish in a transparent bag like from the lfs full of air and then wrap it in newspaper. Sometimes, you might need to add a heat pack. Then put this package into a cardboard box, and put in scrunched up balls of newspaper if you want a snug fit.

Regards, John.

X1 Ultra warmer by grabber
