I am not moving out any time soon but when you do move how do you move your fish? do you get bags to put them in to transport them and have to start a new tank from scratch? or is this a easier way or somthing.. how do you do it?

The way I move fish (not tanks) is put them in a plastic bag as I get them from the LFS and put them in a box them half way on the trip I open the bags then continue, and when I get to the place, I usually take a bucket with me and when I get there I fill the bucket with water and place the fish on top with the bag open.

However, if you have de-chlorineator with you, you could de-chlorine the water when you get there if you have coldwater fish, if you have warmwater fish you can ad some hot water and bring a thormometer with you so you can check the temperature.

I moved 2 tanks this year - I had a chat to my local shop and they gave me a load of bags & elastic bands - they can also oxygenate the bags for you if the fish will be bagged for a long time. I moved the tanks out last and set them back up as soon as I got to the new house - put all of my bagged (in tank water) fish in a sturdy dark box padded out with newspaper to stop the bags moving about and syphoned out the water from the tank (most of it anyway). I bagged the plants and removed ornaments but left substrate with a little water - put it all in the back of the car. At the other end, I quickly set the tanks back up (using dechlor and some boiled water to bring the temp. up) and then acclimatised the bagged fish just the same as you would when you buy them new.

With my filters, I removed the media and put it in sealed tubs with tank water to keep it submerged.

Had no fatalities and 2 months later they are all still happy in their tanks!

Good luck!
