I am starting my first fishless cycle soon and I have seen that some people post 'Fishless Cycle Logs' when they're cycling an aquarium. Is there a specific format or something that you should follow if you make a fishless cycle log thread? I hope this makes sense.

You are making a lot of sense OneOnion. It seems to work best when people clearly label what each reading is, like giving
Ammonia - 3.5 ppm
Nitrite - 2 ppm

Decide what order you want to use and always use the same order so that we can just look down a column for the second number in each group, if that is the thing that you have a question about. Do not use dates, instead use Day 1 , Day 2 etc. That way we don't need to keep calculating what day you are on before examining the numbers. Once you start testing twice a day, mark each set of readings as 12 hours or 24 hours so that we can tell. All of this just makes it easier for those of us trying to answer questions to figure out how your cycle is going. For you there is only one cy6cle at a time, for me there are often 15 or 20 that I am watching and I get confused easily.

Ok, thanks. Watch out for my fishless cycling log that I may start up in the next few days! :)

Hi OneOnion,

I thought member martinking had a nice style of line by line entries which he kept editing on the first post of his fishless cycling thread. Here's a link:

martinkings FLC diary

Also, quite a while back now, there were a number of members who plotted their cycles on a google docs spreadsheet, created a graph and were able to post it in their thread such that we all could see. I thought perhaps those were the clearest of all.

Thanks, that really helped. I'll use the method of martinking, then. Can't wait to set up the tank :hyper:

Yes! Milestone! I added my first 4 ppm of ammonia to the aquarium! :) Day 1 of my fishless cycle starts! But now I have another question. Do people generally post their fishless cycling log right at day one, or do they wait until they make some progress and then post it? Thank you.

Quite often it is posted on day 1 and then the first post is edited as the cycle progresses so that we can keep glancing at the first post to get a feel how things are going.

Thanks! Well I posted my fishless cycle log. Here it is:
