I have what I believe is new leaves forming on the underside of the big leaves on my java fern. I want to use these when they are ready. My question is how do I know when they are ready to use? Do I wait for them to turn into leaves or cut them off now? And how do I cut them off? Do I just cut each one off near the bottom and tie it to something I want it attached to?

Here is a pic of what's forming:

I did ask in the planted section but it's like tumbleweed over there lately. I asked on the 1st and nobody was able to help me.

Wait for the daughter plants to develop a good set of roots and simply detach them from the parent plant. A single leaf of a parent plant can easily produce a half dozen daughters.

"eh" Seriously lol I don''t know what the daughter is? Is that what's hanging off my leaves? So they don''t get green leeaf like they just ggrow some roots?

I just left my java fern ahahh...
I almost have too much of it now, it's taken over my bogwood!

just leave it alone, a rhizome will develop along the underside of the leaf were thoose roots are forming, then new leaves will sprout off then you just pull the baby plant off the leaf. it will be obvious when it forms.

I'll go take a photo now, just a warning though that I'm currently cleaning my tank after kind of falling out with the hobby for a while

I won't judge I'd be interested to see it.

Here you go, sorry for any reflections - it is the middle of the day after all

Wow it's growing really well, I might just leave mine to it then. Btw I don't see anything wrong with your tank, it's looking good to me. Just keep up once weekly w\ter changes boy lol. I must admit I can't bothered each week when it comes time to clean the tanks but it doesn't take very long and I'm happy when it's all done and clean.

I just need to find some easy plant for the right hand side and some more fish that suit my water. I'm not usually lucky when it comes to lasting fish
