so, as in the title, how big to long finned rosy barbs grow, counting tail and without tail?

i see some ppl say 2.5-5 inches, thats too much of a diff for me D:

thanks^^

The fish you speak of is a man-made sport of Barbus conchonius. In the wild, the natural variety can easily grow to over 100mm, and in a good sized tank under optimum conditions, the same. I have had B. conchoius over 100mm.

The trailing fins hamper the fish, and as an inbred item, the chances of them reaching this size are slim. I would still reckon on 75mm however.

Fish "length" is normally quoted without any fins/tail, i.e. body size.

I absolutely adore Rosy barbs, they were my first fish in the hobby and ever since... I've had loads of them. Lateral line's explanation sounds spot on to me, though I must add that my longfinned ones have reached 4" without tail on occasion. Not often, but possible. The other color variations on them, such as the neon red and that transparenty looking one, have been consistantly smaller at just under 3" w/o tail. The normal type seems steady at 4", usually.
Just wanted to throw my own experience in.

ugh, my lfs said that they only grow to 2.5 inches ><

ah well, back to the drawing board on my stocking >.>
