Hot Weather

OH MY GOD..... just had a lil panic attack and thank god for the hot weather in a way! just cleaned the fish tank out and went to unplug the filter and heater and noticed the heater was already unplugged, heart started racing so checked the temperature and it was still at 24 degrees!! all the fish have seemed happy though, panic over!

got myself a magnetic algae scraper today also, with blades and i must say it works very very well with little effort

i had that this week my heater was unplugged for two days! and stayed around 25 i dunno where your located but in the south east we have really hot weather for a few weeks now.

Now might be a good time for people reading this to check their tank temperatures regularly during a hot day - switch off your lights for a few hours if you're overheating!

Im having real problems with my tank, even with the lights off the lid open and the windows open AND a fan its still 29c Normally sits at 24, lol! Still at least im saving on electricity!

Closed curtains or blind.
Run a fan.
Increase aeration. If there plenty of aeration the fish should be fine.
Keep tanks lights off.
Don't add icecubes or bottled ice water as it a complete waste of time. It just stresses the fish altering the temp.

yea, my heater was accidently left off for the full week so am quite lucky.... but am in northeast, darlington area (if anyone interested lol)

Thats exactly what I have done, well apart from the last one. The problem is because our flat is on the corner of the block we get sun ALL day from rise to set as we have windows on every wall. So it gets hot, im going to leave the curtains closed tomorrow. Its currently 26 in our front room.

The temprature in Kent has been up to 80degrees for past few days, so would be ideal if the heaters failed for a while.Don't worry if all your fish look normal,carry on as before

Dont need heaters at the moment, the trop tank sittting at 26 without, unfortunately the cold tank is sitting at 28 and we lost a comet last night, may or may not have been due to the temp but he was fine one minute, on his back the next My youngest is wondering why the house is so dark all the time t the moment, I keep all the curtains shut and windows open in the summer to cool the house down

Glad they are all ok, I did the exact same thing a couple of days ago, unplugged heater in the fry tank & forgot to switch it back on, thank goodness for summer! lol.

heaters i dont use heaters anyway apart from in kitchen tanks and betta tank in the hall
but now even those dont have heaters on

Cos i sometimes suffer from heat fatigue (weird thing with heat i've had since a child) the doctors advice for keeping the house cool is to keep the curtains , windows and doors closed all day , with fans running to circulate the cool air so you dont let warm air into the house or sunlight to heat up the air temp in the house

Fans are a waste of time if you have all your windows open and sunlight comming in as you are only circulating warm air around the house

I just leave the windows slightly ajar - i know i shouldn't just dont like being too closed in

THATS only the advice i got from my GP and neurologist and i'm by no way saying it's for everyone and that it's the best way just passing on tips
