So it's been real hot here for a few days. Yesterrday the tank temps went up to 86 degrees, and today they're up to 88!

Will my bettas be okay or is this too hot for them? I've been more concerned with cooling myself down than cooling them, since I know they enjoy a bit more heat than I do, but if it gets too hot I should probably start looking after them...

Yah I'd definitely say that's too hot. You can freeze a bottle of water and float it in the tank to cool the water, or use a ziploc bag with ice cubes.

It's been really hot here too. My thermometer on the tank only goes to 86, and it doesnt even read that anymore, meaning it's been over that for some time now. I only have a 2 gallon tank, and the frozen bottle and bag of ice cubes would change the temp way too fast. What do I do? I too am trying to keep myself cool, as we do not have air conditioning, so Jack is coming second to me. So any suggestions for how to keep Jack cool? Or to keep me cool.

I know that some stores had been selling air conditioners for less than a 100 bucks US, though in this heat I'm not sure if they have any left.

You need to be very careful for yourself and then your fish. It's really dangerous. Do you have friends or family with air conditioning that you and Jack can stay with until it cools down?

It was almost 100 degrees today here, and the cats and I are loving the heat. Not too sure how the fish are fairing, but I'm pretty sure they're okay. No warning signs whatsoever. We don't have A/C by choice - I can't stand it and I get sick at the drop of a hat when I'm stuck in it.

If you can't handle it you have to find a way to stay cool!

if you crush up some ice, you can put that in a ziploc baggie. small crushed up bits of ice shouldn't change the temp too rapidly.

Well we have been going shopping or out to eat, so we spend some time in the AC. We dont have the money for room air conditioners, and friends are out of the question as I am living at home this summer and all my friends now are from school. When I do have to be at home I sit in front of the fans, so it's not completely unbearable. How can your cats like the heat? Mine look like roadkill all around the house because they lay spread out under the fans.

I will try the crushed ice tomorrow!

I seriously have one cat that will not move from in front of the fridge where the HOT air blows out. I don't know why they like it, but they do. They won't go downstairs where it's the coolest, they won't go in front of the fans, they won't lay on the tile or the concrete.... We're all wierdos here. :good:

urgh... how can you stand the heat? i get uncomfortable with my house being anything over 74 degrees fahrenheit!!! i practically die during the summer. if my air conditioning were to quit working, i'd just have to shoot myself.

It was really uncomfortable. But the good part is, now that the heat has fallen down to 80 in the tanks, it really seems so cool in here!! :p

It got cool in a hurry after a thunderstorm :D

Yeah, we had a storm last night. It felt really good in other parts of my house, but not my room. All the windows were open in the house, but mine were closed because it was still sprinkling and with the positioning of one of my windows, it would have come in and gotten on my computer and other electronics. The temp in Jacks tank has come down to 86, but should be going down further now that i have a nice cross breeze going in here. I'm excited the the high today is 81 here. Well I'm about to put some crushed ice in a bag, and use it either for Jack's tank or to cool me down
