PS My hospital tank is 16l (~3.5 UK gallons) and it's fine thank you very much Cheese Specialist. Currently home to a vicious little male betta - but yes it does take more cleaning than my 96l tank. It has cycled easier tho'.
That's a "hospital tank" though isn't it?! Not a full-time home. Also, people keep bettas in vases so a 3.5g would probably be quite roomy for them. And what's with the "thank you very much"? What are you, 3 years old?

Also, Smiles I know you didn't say you were going to breed them but most do so I am sorry for presuming it.

Either way the tank is too small in my opinion. I don't think it's fair to keep an animal (or 4) in that sort of size of captivity. It's not like a slightly bigger tank would have been uch more expensive and the fish would be happier and healthier.

Whatever people want to keep animals in I can't stop them. If someone wanted to keep a betta in an ashtray I couldn't but it doesn't mean I am not going to try.

A betta in a ashtray?? now thats an novel idea, I wonder if I could convert my ashtray into a betta tank :kira:
LOL, I shouldn't have said that. Some people would think an ashtray would make a great and spacious home for a whale!

Here's the deal, you came off way too strong, I'll tell yah that right away. Poor girl's never had fish before and she didn't know you needed to cycle a tank or how big of a tank she needed, etc. Give her a break it happens alot... I didn't know you had to do anything more than feed a fish until I came here, that's just reality, it's not common knowledge. Then you come in here like mr. bigshot tellin her how it is. Next time try to take the edge off, use a little tact and watch your wording, you'll sound less "jerk-ish"

Maybe the shape of the tank is different than you think maybe it's longer not wider, and thus would be lots of room for a few guppies, cause they're big time surface dwellers. As for babies, if you're not looking at them getting big and keeping them, don't give them anywhere to hide and let the parents clean up, I'm sure fry are a delicasy

Other than that khs666 gave some good advice ;)

Nope 35, just act like a three year old sometimes.

I was going to comment on your reply, but Black Chameleon said it all for me. We were all new at one point, just take it easy - ok?

As for my comment, I apologise - it was childish. However, you were a bit harsh on smiles.

Made alot of trash in my tank so I took out most of it. Still got alot of dead plant stuff to clean out. Gonna siphen and do a 20% change again today. The babies liked it but I'm scared all the dead plants will screw up my tank and kill everyone. Now I have spread out my leafy plants that don't make the mess. What all should you watch with live plants? Do they help controll nitro when not alot of dead material? Any info on fisha nd live plants will help!

Thanks,

Keith
