Horable Tank Condition!

On another note I had a feeder goldfish die of ammonia poisoning in crystal clear fresh water. It was a feeder for my garter snake who wasn't interested and the water volume was around 6-8 cups....
and that proves what? that you put goldifish in redicualsy small tanks and they die.
I guess you didn't read my entire post now did you? Or you lack more than a handful of brain cells. I will explain one more time.
It wasn't a " tank ". It was the water dish for my pet snake, it was expected to die it was FOOD. It also proves that just because the water looks bad, doesn't mean it is. My water with the goldfish when it died was CLEAR, so water color plays little to no effect on the current state of the wate.

Krib - I think your best bet is to either
1) offer to help your teacher maintain the class tanks and make it into a project showing what a well maintained aquarium can look like or
2) write a report explaining the nitrogen cycle, old tank syndrome, and other effects of built up waste on the biological functions of freshwater fish. You might even get extra credit! ~_^

Just out of curiosity, what are the controls of your experiment? Hypothesis? What results will prove your theory (since you don't believe in test kits). It's pretty well known that fish can survive in a less than adequate environment...people have done that for years not realizing that they were causing a shortened lifespan, and/or other serious health problems. Organisms are tough, and some individuals survive a lot more abuse than we give them credit for, but that doesn't mean that they should have to. There are plenty of "cruelty cases" that prove this with a wide variety of animals (and people).

There are no controls for it. Simply I got tired of hearing people critize others because they don't do water changes as much as other members, or don't stock the same as others. There will be no proven results, just that my fish are alive and healthy without all the things that modern fish keepers claim are a must. Such as cycling. I have never and never will cycle a tank, its not needed. I see posts all the time " ZOMG U DIDNT CYCLE TAKE UR FISH BACK AND READ ON CYCLING ". Its bs and so is the " ZOMG 30% A WEEK ", no reason for it its a waste of time/energy.
Plus who are you guys to decide if a fish is happy or not? Fish don't have feelings anyway, so the " ZOMG UR FISH AREN'T HAPPY " annoys me aswell....
I'm breaking the mold.

LOL...you do realize that a tank will cycle no matter what right? You just didn't put any effort to keeping your fish safe. If you don't care, I can't make you...but other people do care, and other people do want to know the science and facts about how to keep fish healthy.

There are little-no "facts" on fish keeping. It is 100% personal exerpience and nothing else. One person may see one thing, another may see something else. Also, you think that because I didn't do what you all do (cycling before adding fish) tha I didn't keep my fish safe and that I don't care.
See this is the problem with these forums, you disagree with the way most keep their fish and your labeled as not giving a crap about your fish.

what theres no way in hell that goldfish died from ammonia. it died because there was no oxygen in that dish

Ammonia burn happend first, I could tell that it died from the ammonia, if it was oxygen there would be nothing visible on the fish externally.

The thing is, you have a filter, and the teacher dosent. Another thing, the room gets over a 100 degree's in the summer( name one fish that can stand that tempature without being stressed out). Also, when the fish move over the gravel there is so much waste it flys in the water everytime they mave their tails. Plus, i asked him if his water is normally like that, and he said no, it is usually clear. Besides i know that from the other tank where there is nothing living left in it, that water is alot clearer. Also, i have a little 2.5 gallon tank that i havent done a water change( gravel vacum) in 2 months and theese were the stats( with a homeade filter): ph, 7.9, nitrites: 4, nitrate: 150, ammonia: 3. That was from when it was tested a week ago. The advantage of your example with yourtank is, when you are pouring more water in the tank, you are diluting the amount of nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia, and this tank didnt have that oppoutunity.

Yes I have a filter and its diluted, however after arond 4-6 months time in an " overstocked (LOL) " tank it remained clear. I have kept fish in conditions where debri will fly up if they move their tails and swim around, heck my frog tank is this way now (filter messed up in a power outage)... BTW I doubt the tank reachs 100 degrees it would be pretty hard to do that unless it was placed in direct sunlight even then these are african cichlids, they can handle heat well...

Quit arguing!

No problem. Apparently someone has had a bad experience with the education system they were exposed to. That really is a shame, and I feel teachers who don't feel it is any of their business to go above & beyond are to blame.

Also, they are right in front of a green house, so it probably gets even hotter( they leave the green house door open so the plants inside wont die in the summer. I have no idea where you live, but we had a 2 week 110 degree heat wave.

I am not arguing, I'm debating.
If your refering to me- I attended a private school and it was great.

Well, quit debating, also, i know someone who went to a private school and said the teachers were to snotty, and maybe private schools dont give a damn about the fish, my school would look into but i doubt they would do anything about it. How do you vent them?
