friend got one recently, but it doesn't seem very interested in the live brine shrimp or flakes he's feeding the other fish.

could it just be because of the recent move?

My two eat FD bloodworms and FD brine shrimp, and they occasionally go to the bottom to pick at my rams/cories shrimp pellets :)

Hi tear-scar :)

If your friend just got them, it could well be that they are not yet adjusted to the different water conditions.

On the other hand, new fish with problems have often been stressed to the point of becoming ill due to conditions during shipping. I suggest that you tell your friend to look for signs of either ich or bacterial infection.

Most gouramis enjoy live food and flakes and not eating them is not a good sign. You might want to suggest that he also feed algae wafers or spirulina discs which most gouramis love.

I wish him luck with these lovely little fish. Please let me know how things work out. :D

I think it was just a bit of stress; he recently informed me that the fish started eating. At first, it only ate with the cories, taking a few snaps at an algae wafer, but eventually started eating the brine shrimp and flakes. The fish seems to be doing well.

Hi tear-scar :)

I'm happy to hear that your friend's honey gourami is eating. They are such lovely, but timid, little fish that I would have been worried about them too. :D
