So ...

My Honey Gourami was with me for about a week before he developed what appeared to be dropsy. Totally my fault. I hadn't figured out how to get the siphoner to work and the water just wasn't getting clean enough.

Anyway. As a brand new aquarist (and still being slightly inexperienced), I don't have a quarantine tank yet. So the most I could do for him was wait out the dropsy [although I did try a dip of salt once or twice just for good measure] and pray that he would either get better, or at very least not infect the other fish.

So yeah. Seeing as his days seemed to be numbered, I wasn't surprised to find the day before yesterday that I hadn't seen him at all that day. Assuming he had died and was possibly behind the filter, I gave the tank a one-over.
To my dismay and surprise, I cannot find him ANYWHERE. I did a 25% water change just now, hoping that maybe I'd find his little body under one of my river stones, but no luck.

Where in the world could his body possibly be? The only decor I have so far is my red wendtii (my driftwood is still in the soaking process). I checked the filter and moved the stone substrate around best I could, but he seems to have vanished.

Has anyone ever had something like this happen to them before?
I hate to think he's still in there somewhere contaminating the water, but try as I might I just can't find any sign of him.

If you hadn't seen him for a couple of days, the chances are he died and the other fish ate him.

I had the same with a micky mouse platy, not a single piece could I find, the others were OK and it wasn't showing signs of illness. Strange, maybe a new brand of disappearing fish, cunning plan by breeders to make you go out and buy more??? :sly:
