hey

My honey gourami has got a horrible black colour on the top of his body. He didnt have the black colour when i brought him, he was red.
im not too sure what it is because my water quality is fine and he looks perfically happy. might you know what the black colour is? plz post
if u have an idea.

I take it you have red (red robin) honey gouramis? Mine did that (went darker) and I think it was a mating thing in the end as they did it every now and then. I'd be interested to see what others say on this too :D

male honey dwarf gouramis get black markings on their chest and face when mature. Not sure about the red variety but I guess it might be similar. If the fish is still eating well and acting normally I would say it is just maturing and nothing to worry about.

I was going to say that first off but then read the thread again and saw that the blackness is on the top half of their fish  My normal honey males go dark on the underside of their bellies.

yea i think it has something 2 do with being ready to mate -_- , problem is i dont have a female :p so the poor guy will have to wait to i get a bigger tank.
