Honest Opinion On Fluval Roma

i have a fluval roma 240L and i cant fault it except for the drips i get down the outside.... apparently due to overfilling but i have tried differennt levels and still get the same problem.... might just be mine but its well annoying

Would this be from condensation/ill fitting lid or drips from opening/closing?
No just dripping down th eoutside of the tank........ as stated its not over full and still i get drips!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, lets look at this....

Firstly the offered deal with the 200 is the underwater 4 internal for £245 but they are prepared to swap it for a 304 ext. for an exta £30.... the 240 comes with a 305.

Bowing cabinet is a tad worrying although is this an isolated event? Anyone else care to comment on that one.

Drips running down the side, again is this an isolated event caused by outside influences (ambient temperatures maybe?)

Yes of course the Juwel tanks are better (and a lot more ££££) but my opinions are......rubbish light bar problems (well known), not the best filters in the world and to my mind very old fashioned looking.....sorry

Nice to see you too SFF. ;)

I've had my fluval roma 200 up and running for about 3/4 weeks now, it did come with the U4, but I'm using the old filter from my Aqua one. I love it, no problems with it at all, there did appear to be a bit of condensation running down the left top corner, very occasionally, but this seems to have stopped now.

Easy to get to everything the whole top 3 parts lift off easily, but then I'm coming from the way too tall Regency 80!!

I really like it, and for the price, think it's great.

Working in the trade I rate the Fluval tanks as high if not higher than Juwel,

The heaters are incredibly reliable (provided it is the Fluval tronic) and so are the light units, unlike Juwels IME.
Also IMO The U internal range of filters are very good and are likely to outlive the powerheads used by Juwel.

However the external range does let the brand down quite significantly IMO and i would personally choose the package with the internal if you can (which can be used as a backup or easily sold) and then spend an extra £60 on a Tetratec Ex1200 or eheim classic to run the tank.

Also admittedly the doors on the cabinet can be fiddly, I have not personally known any cabinets to bow, but you have to be quite the perfectionist when putting together the cabinet, in order to get the doors positioned in exactly the right position, (a few mm out and you will have trouble opening the doors)

dont you mean fluval arnt up to getting it perfect..as its all pre drilled ( in this case small holes already made to drop a tiny hinge into) so not a lot the consumer can do about it

well obviously.. i bought mine 4 months ago and it came with a U4- different stockists may carry older stock tho

I got mine on 31st May '09 from BAS (Bolton) for £234. It came with a U4 internal filter as well. They price matched Pets@Home who had a special 20% offer on at the time. But BAS gave me lots of sand and a background. Everything else I needed came standard with the tank anyway.

Not had any problems with the stand but I've found that when I lift up the lid all the water thats evaporated & condensed on it pours down right onto 1 of the light tubes. This resulted in the tube failing and as it's all a sealed unit I couldn't fix it. Thankfully the shop swapped it with a ex-display lid. Now I always make sure I lift the lid in a way that makes all the water drops back into the tank, but it isn't designed to be lifted in this way. Daft design imo.

Doesn't anyone else have this problem??? It's the lid which is in 3 parts. A centre section which houses the 2 light tubes and 2 other identical sections which run the full width of the tank and hinge on the centre section or can simply be fully lifted off.
