Holy cow...I have fry!!

Thanks  I'm sure they'll be awesome, but I'm a bit nervous right now pondering on if Dad should stay or go...
There are TONS of fry. TONS. So I might leave him in.

He's so funny, when I peek in I can't even find him, and then he'll just peek from behind a leaf all hidden and whatnot, How adorable.

Surprise babies are the best babies sometimes. Congratulations! I am very happy for you and the proud parents. I can't wait to watch them grow up.

Congrats, Wuv! I wish you a large number raised to adulthood, so you can send us out some. :)

Thanks you three

Kiarra~ Oh girl, I'm sure there will be plenty :S There seems to be more fry everytime I look in at him. I dunno where he's been stashing all of them!

They're still hanging in the nest and/or around the plants. Now I have all this bbs hatched and no one to feed it to just yet. I figure they'll be ready to eat by tonight.

Sam, not sure if you'll see this, but I had a jar of decapsulated eggs in the fridge from my last spawn, four months ago. They hatched in like six hours....
I think keeping them hydrated in a suspended animation helped mucho. I was amazed last night when I went to dismantle the pickle jar and switch to coke bottles, and I saw all those bbs swimming.

So...just talking to myself here. Don't mind me :*)
Really!

Here we are, the fry are all free swimming. There seems to be less, but they might be lurking beneath the underfolds of the leaves. A lot are just mosying around, being fry-ish

Dad is still with them. I've been feeding bbs and worms but he eats everything the minute I put it in , dammit. So a few minutes ago I flipped on the lights for the first time, in hopes that the bbs would flock to the surface where lots of fry are hanging out, and dad went bonkers but quickly settled down. So, I'm covering both angles, worms for the bottom dwellers, bbs for the top. Dad keeps swarming up all of the debris on the bottom, which is good I suppose since it makes the microworms swirl all over.
I'm getting a litte nervous and I'm torn as to whether I should pull him or not. He doesn't seem stressed or overtired, he's just doing his thing. What to do, what to do.

i tihnk you should pull him to be safe i mean he's done his job has he not?

interesting about the decapsulated bbs, ive never been good at decapsulating thme and they never hatch for me when i do it so i switched to those hatch mix packets. i need to try a new one my kapus and unimacs need some better nutrition.

good luck!

I knooooooow (whining) He has done his job -_-

I just don't want to mess up his little wild head  With typical splendens I don't even think twice about pulling dad. For some reason, with this one, I'm hesitant. Gah!

Alright, one week old today and they're quite large  Doing very well and eating a lot of bbs. I took dad out yesterday morning, as he wasn't really doing anything anymore, except knocking the fry silly when he'd make sudden, jerky turns

Finally! I haven't been able to get a decent shot of these kids, but I'll admit I don't try too hard, they really hate the camera...

One month old this past Saturday  They grow way slower than splendens, that's for sure :S But they're right on track with all of their fins, ventrals and labyrinths. They're fully functioning bettas now - just itty bitty

I'm guesstimatng about 125 of them at this point. We've had a couple of losses due to getting stuck under plant weights :X
Thankfully, since they'll live peacefully together, I might be able to get rid of 6 to a dozen at a time. I know the folks in the SMP will take some off of my hands. Hopefully you guys will too :look:

That's so fun! I have imbellis fry now, the horny little buggers spawned in the 3 gallon temporary home before I could put them in their luxury 10 gallon! :) I'm starting to love the wilds. It helps when the main fish shipper of the IAA (international anabantoid association) lives right in the area! :)

 that's awesome, congrats!!
This particular pair had just come in from overseas, where they were literally caught from the wild, and at the show we had them on display in a one gallon-together for space purposes. These two were spawning AT the show (nothing came of it though, but still) I guess they'll do it anywhere, no matter who's around
