So i just realized that i have about 10 baby red platys currently swimming in my tank. I dont know anything about keeping them They are very new, probably today! I am currently trying to get them out of the main tank,

Help!

I have very little to know about baby fish (fry)..

1) Do you have a lot of plants?
2) I think you need to buy some fry food.. other than that I don't know what else to suggest.. I may even be wrong, lol

I hope someone kind and considerate will be along to help you soon x

Right I'm pretty much an expert when it comes to raising fry. I breed guppies and swordtail's. You can leave them with the parents if a)the adults are well fed or b)you have lots of plants and cover for them.
I you really have to separate them, Feed them 2-3 times a day on finely crushed flake food and BBS(baby brine shrimp) Which you can buy from any good LFS(local fish store)
If you really want to raise these please try to keep it so that you either raise a minimum amount or you can find them homes when they are older.
Hope this helps.

Oh and yes, change the title.

Cheers,
Alessa!

Omygosh! Thank you! I really appreciate this! I've got about 7-8. Can i keep them in a 4 gallon tank at the moment? I hope. I'm only a beginner fish keeper...

Do you have a filter and heater in the 4 gallon? If so you may need to get some mature media out of your main filter and put it into your spare filter so that it keeps the ammonia and other water parameters in check. If you don't have a heater try to find a warmish spot to put the tank to keep the temp the same. As long as they have a small filter and heater a 4 gallon is fine for raising them till they are big enough to go in with the adults. Like I said, feed them 2-3 times a day with finely crushed flake food and BBS to get them moving and should be fine. Once they are about _____ They should be OK to go back with the adults.

Did I do well with helping them out? I'm quite proud actually because I didn't know if anyone was going to be a long to say I'd said something wrong or something like that... Like I say, With me constantly raising livebearer's and selling them off to the neighbours or keeping them to breed on.

My first try at raising cory's I did quite well. I got 4 of them to about 1" in size then I got a disease in my tank that wiped them and possibly their mother out... :(

Care of new platies is easy. Keep them in clean water and feed them well. Clean water means lots of water changes and feeding well means lots of very small feedings so that they never go hungry. If you are like most of us, you will end up overfeeding to some degree. That is where frequent large water changes come into play to keep the water quality good.
