I just got back from my 2 week wedding / honeymoon in Jamaica and I left my father in law with pre-measured food for my fish.

I would feel so guilty letting them starve while I was away!

I used those pill containers that you can get from the drug store. I paid $1 for mine at the Dollar store and it holds enough food for 14 days!

Every morning and evening all he had to do was pop open a container and dump it into the tank.

Worked like a charm cause everyone survived!!

I leave them too, its a safer option to let the fish go hungry for a week than to risk letting a non fish keeper near the tank.

The day before i leave i do 50% water changes on all the tanks and clean the filters paying particular attention to the impellers and hoses to make sure there are no blockages to minimise the risks of a filter failure. For planted tanks remember to set the lights on timers.
Can you get timers for lights and just add them on to your existing light setup? My plants are looking nice recently, I don't want to go away for a week and come back to find them all dead. :(

Yeah, they're about £3-4 and you plug them into the power and plug your lights into the timer, simple.

You can get digital ones for under a tenner, in fact Argos had 2*digital ones for £13.
