I am going away for just over a week and bought the following product:

It says to remove the seal but I don't know if this also means take it out of its metal container dish.

Anyway, I have, but wanted to check this was right - there is a bit of a feeding frenzy going on at the moment - with the danios and loaches taking nice chuncks out of it, wondered if this was ok or are they going to over feed?

take it out, throw it away. your fish should be just fine for a week with no food. The feeder will most likely just foul your water by overfeeding your fish and breaking down itself.

If you are worried about feeding then ask a friend to come by once and count your fish as well as add a premeasured amount of food to the tank.

In this article you can go for two weeks without feeding. I've followed this method with adult angels, they all lived, the tank had 4" of water, and looked more like a mud puddle than an aquarium.
