Melafix can used for ulcers. But it depends on how bad the ulcer is,. I thought your fish sounded pretty bad, so recommended some other medications instead.
None of those are available in my LFS. Most I think are American?

If the fish is still alive, would it be possible for the OP to provide an image for diagnostic purposes?
HITH is usually treated with Metronidazole (preferably metronidazole flakes which can be acquired from the U.S.A) or Waterlife Octazin.
In addition, giving the fish salt baths and placing the fish into a separate tank will achieve the following:
1. Salt will cause any given parasite to die by upsetting the osmotic balance
2. placing the fish into a separate tank will also separate it from the hexamita cysts that lay on the bottom of the aquarium.

The gourami did die this afternoon. I have a pretty good pic of the hole but no idea how to add on here!! I added some salt with water changes but made no noticeable difference.
I've not heard of these hexamita cysts, I guess these are naturally occurring things!? Ill look them up!

You can post pictures by first uploading them to a "photobucket" or "imageshack" websites, then use the image button above when typing the comment to insert the pictures or just post the link.
There's two types of HITH, one that responds to medication and one that doesn't and gets worse if medicated(need to reasearch myself about this one as I only came across it the other day) I've dealt with hexamita once and it was an awfull and long process to cure. Metronidazole did work to an extent but I finished with another med that seemed to do the trick called Spirohexol by JBL. Anyway, why did you think it was HITH because it might as well have been an unrelated ulcer.
