just noticed one of my sterbai corys 'might' have hole in the head. i dont know anything about this, so have a few questions. one of the reasons im not sure is that the hole seems to be where one of its 'nostrils' once was, so not sure if this is related to his 'nostril', or whether its coincidence the hole has appeared over it. or maybe an injury. all of my water stats are good, never had any bad results. i did a water change today so any results would probably be a bit irrelevant anyway. no dead fish recently, although i had a red eye tetra with an eye injury (like a bubble over his eye) that has healed up, and one of my BA tetra is looking a bit gaunt, i expected him to be dead this morning. no hole in his head though.

most importantly - is it something that spreads to other fish. i dont have a QT tank, and will kill the fish if theres a risk of it infecting the others.

is it treatable in a community tank (fish in sig below) ?

cheers

HITH is normally associated with cichlids, I have never heard of it in corys, but I maybe wrong. What other fish are in the tank, I would more suspect an injury than HITH.

fish in my sig, 'cichlid' wise only a black angel and 2 GBR's. i cant think of anything that would have attacked the cories, i dont have any aggression issues in my tank, certainly not directed towards the cories. they tend to just get out of the way if something bigger wants to swim past them.

i'll try get a picture, but dont hold your breath.

picture, not great but just visible.

Its a better pic than I could take of a cory!
I would say that is a bite to be honest its quite deep, HITH would start off as a small mark and gradually get larger (from what I know about it, touch wood never had it) Its a bit concerning where it is, but he should be ok, extra wc to help it heal and keep an eye on it for any fungus.

yeah ive not noticed it before today, and i cant help but ogle all my fish when i walk past the tank. done a water change today, i'll see how it goes. he might get a scar, he'll look hard as nails. and he'll be the only fish int eh tank with a name, scarface.

Hopefully a couple of days or so and you wont even notice it, just watch for it turning really red, if it does some antibacterial meds, but with wc you shouldnt really need it for a bite.

BTW He is so darn cute!!!
