A pair have appeared on Aquabid. I presume they are siblings due to being sold by the same person at the same time and similar markings. I really want them. Really, really, really want them. But it will cost me $120 to buy them both and bring them into the country and get them through quarantine, plus whatever I have to pay for local shipping. That's about two months worth of wages.

Do you guys think it's worth it? Would this breed true? It's only money and I can get it back, but I don't want to throw that much away on a pair to find the fry are not as attractive as the parents. (I know I'm not going to get 100% stunners, I don't expect it, but I do want some that look that good so I can recover at least some of the pretty steep cost of getting them into the country.)

tbh i think the fry would be a mess, there is too much going on with both adults, i would have either the boy or the girl and add them to a more solid coloured HMPK

I agree the boy is lovely  wonder what he'd be like bred to a yellow female? that would be cool

thats the thing with bettas you never know what you get when you breed them - give it a go be different but think what are you trying to achieve, colour finnage ???

What I want is basically a line that's going to throw mixed colours so that I can bring in solids or whatever to the offspring. There are very few decent HMPK lines in Australia. People think they are boring because all they see are solid red, solid blue, melano (solid and ugly, not the true beautiful melano) and wild red/blue. So the more colours I get out of one breeding the better, because then I can take whatever people say they like and work with that. (And have a heap of pretty multicolour ones left over for myself...)

What are some expert opinions on the fin quality though? The branching looks even to me but I'm not the best judge. I want to start with good finnage because there's a HM line that I could cross into this as well. And because you can stuff around with colours but if you start with crap finnage you're going to screw it up.

Genetic mixups = GOOD in my book. You would not believe some of the stuff I've bought for breeding lol.

Personally.. I like the female. And if they are siblings, seeing the male will give you a better idea of what kind of genes are being brought into your future fry. Also, she has an awesome white on her scales, like a dragon.

BOTH of them set me drooling... and there are some great bids on the other siblings as well, personally I think the male I'm eyeing off is nicest of the lot, but apparently this line is admired by others.
