Hmmm... planning on getting a new female guppy.

Mm, I'd say if you are planning on putting the new fish in the tank in your sig, you are way overstocked anyways...

Not WAY overstocked.. perhaps a bit. But uh... they seem fine with eachother anyway. (With the exception of the danio I'll be flushing.)

Btw, I didn't have the mollies when I started this topic. I got the mollies instead of the new female guppy. So there will be no new female guppy.

Do parasites spread? What problems can they cause? What can I do about it?

Parasites can spread, yes.

A parasite is another living organism that lives in or on another animal, from which it gets it's food and shelter.

You need to treat for this with a medicine designed for this, and often it doesn't do much. Once the fish dies (if they do) the parasite will go on to another fish, and live there. It's best to keep the internal parasite fish seperate.

And yeah they cause problems. The fish is sick, and it's dying because it has another organism living in it, and killing it! That's a problem. ;)

They can sometimes be brought in by new fish, or they can come in live foods. Those are the 2 ways I can think of.

Prevention is the best though, and this is done by not overstocking or stressing fish, and keeping the water very clean,

Wait, why are you flushing one of your danios? Is it too much of an issue to give it to your lfs? Give the poor thing a fighting chance.

And I would say your tank is a good bit overstocked.
4 guppies= average size for one guppy is 1-2 inches, that means 4-8 inches of fish, you are at 8 gallons of water right there when your guppies grow up.
2 balloon mollies=mollies get to be 2-4 inches, so you have another 4-8 inches of fish there
5 tetras= about an inch each, so there's 5 inches of fish
2 danios=another inch each

so, if all of your fish max out you will have 23 inches of fish. Even if they stay at minimum size, you still have 15 inches of fish.

I'm sorry Orky but that made no sense to me. Could you please just say how many gallons more of space they would theoretically need?

"Give the poor thing a fighting chance"

That is what I have tried to do! I told my dad I wanted to inquire as to if I could give him to a shop! but he said he didn't want to bother, and if it's that big of a deal I should just flush him! I'm doing what I tihnk is best for the largest number of fish possible that I can actually do!!!

She's doing the inch per gallon rule.

As for the Danio, I know how you feel. Can't you tell your dad how you feel, and that it's important to you to save these fish? Maybe tell him about here, and let him see for himself?

And all your fish are not going to die. Seperate the ones with Internal Parasites, and they'll be fine.

I'm sorry hun, hang in there.

Sorry, I didn't know your circumstances. Yes, it is hard to be put in that situation. I go by the one inch of fish per one gallon of water rule. Theoretically they would need about 23 gallons of water, you have ten, so you would need 13 more gallons.

Maybe you could get a friend with a liscense to drive you to a pet store, or advertise on the buy/sell/swap section, or just keep it. That fish will thank you, and if you keep up on water maintenance, that one fish shouldn't do much harm.

Just relax a second, and let everything settle out. see if the others get the internal parasites. If they do, unfortunately if you cannot get your hands on some medicated food, or even if you can, there is little you can do. If this is the case, you might just have to let nature take its course, then clean the tank out well and let it sit for a week or so to make sure the parasites in the tank are gone before re starting the tank. Keep your chin up, and good luck.

Oh but I'm trying! He wouldn't get it.
And I'm not allowed to seperate them because I have "too many tanks already" and even though HE wouldn't be dealing with the tanks, he doesn't like having multiple containers. So seperating would not be an option. Even if it were, I don't have the money to buy a new quarantine tank. They'd go in a simple bowl. And get no oxygen. And die anyway.

He knows about the website. I had to get permission to use his e-mail address for activation.

This is so horrible. I'm a perfectionist and you will not believe the sleep I will be losing over this until the infected and overly large number of fish are taken care of!

This is what I am thinking. Make sure the fish actually do have parasites, flush them (sorry, but I think that is the only option I have) and persuade dad to let me give the danio(s) to the store.

Water pollution? Two... or three extra flushed fish is not going to be a big deal. And I'm sorry if the fish are still alive. But what about the ones in the tank?!
