hmm weird breeding convicts

Ok wuhu out of 8 convicts I finally got a pair to pair off

Anyway today I was watching the female lay her eggs but right behind her the male was eating them or at least thats what it looked like.

Is this normal behaviour or what??

The famale was laying her eggs in a piece of plastic tube so they werent sticking to it could this be why??

wow it took that long? maybe its because he firtilized the eggs and he is just picking out the bad ones? or maybe its just cuz its there first try
