Just thought I would post another couple of pictures of these unusual fish and their recent behaviour. The interaction between the two species doesn't usually last long enough for me to grab my camera, but this time it did, so here are the results.

Pseudogastromyzon cheni (is the smaller green fish with the red dorsal fin)
Beaufortia kweichowensis (is the larger lighter coloured fish)

I don't know what the behaviour is? could it be a dominance thing or could it be something a little bit more reproduction based?

Any comments or suggestions are welcome as to what it is.

While I'm at this I might as well add pics of my new killi fish pair. The species name is Aphyosemion striatum, the male is the fish in the first two pics and the female is the fish in the third.

lol there like dogs sniffing each other  cool fish i have never seen them before so thanks for sharing. beaut killi as well

i have 4 beaufortia kweichowensis with 1 pseudogastromyzon cheni because my other cheni's died. im thinking by the strongest, the one that survived.
your cheni has really strong colours btw. its rare that you get to see the yellow as bright as you do on yours.
this isn't breeding behaviour. this is the dominance thing. they have no other way to show it as they have nothing else to do apart from sit on top of each other

also, how do you get your pictures so clear??
these are really small fish but you have managed to take the pictures so there is no blur which then makes the fish look alot bigger! how? :X

Wow, love the cheni. Did you get him specially or was he in with the usual mixed bunch of hillstreams?

I got the cheni in a shop that I don't normally frequent due to the extortionate amounts of money that they charge for their fish and products. But anyways I went in one day and I saw these little fellas. I already had the beaufort so I though I would add to the collection. So I am still on the lookout for more HSL species.

I have seen both these species in the LFS and none of them seem to be as active or as colourfull as the fish in my tank. The tank that I have them in is geared up specifically for these guys as I have two internal filters and an additional powerhead to generate lots of water movement plus copious abouts of aeration. I feed them on bloodworm and JMC sinking catfish pellets, so maybe its the high protein diet that brings out the vibrant yellow in the dorsal fin.

I didnt use anything special to take the pictures, I used the flash set on automatic, I turned the shutter speed to 60/10000 (I think) and I just took loads of photos and deleted the fuzzy ones.

Here are another couple of pics

They change their sink pigment very quickly to blend in with their background. I didnt know they did this till I got them home.
